Should cyclists wear a camera on their rides?

The practical purpose of installing such a device would be simply to record an event should one occur.

A better investment might be on safety equipment for yourself, like a helmet, elbow protection, knee protection and making sure your bicycle is in top shape. Those are going to be important things because its incumbent on the owner of the bicycle to take care for his or her own safety. A camera, as long as it is not a distraction to the owner of the bike or anyone else, can be useful in documenting an incident. But at the same time having a camera installed on a bike or helmet does not make you a safer person on a bicycle. Its possible that if drivers observe a camera on the cyclist’s helmet or bike, may back off and use more caution lest they be caught driving carelessly on video.
